Residential Life Leadership & Development Coordinator at Central Washington University

Job Summary:
This position oversees student leadership development for University Housing through advising of the Residence Hall Association and National Residence Hall Honorary. Responsible for the coordination of the residence life academic initiatives including but not limited to living-learning communities and student staff retention initiatives. Serves as instructor for the RA-Class Psychology 275 in conjunction with Assistant Director of Residence Life or designee. Responsible for the coordination and development of the Residence Life student staff recruitment and selection process. Responsible for the coordination and development of the Residence Life student staff training program. In addition this position has responsibility including on call responsibilities, crisis management response, and serves as a mid-level university hearing officer.

Required Qualifications:
-Master’s degree in Higher Education Administration or related field
– two academic years of professional experience in a residence hall setting or student affairs related experience,
– Well-developed interpersonal communication skills, including oral and written communication;
– Experience that illustrates an understanding of diversity issues;
– Demonstrated experience in use of Microsoft Office;
-Experience advising student leadership groups;
-Experience teaching “RA Class” or on boarding residential life training modular course
– OR any combination of education and/or experience which clearly demonstrates the ability to perform the essential functions of the job.

Preferred Qualifications:
– Supervisory experience
– Experience providing interpersonal counseling
– Experience participating in behavioral interventions
– Experience with program coordination or project management
– Experience recruiting and training in preparation for student groups

Job Duties:


– Advises Residence Hall Association. Coordinates and participates in weekly organization meetings.  Develops, coordinates and facilitates board member training.
– Advises National Residence Hall Honorary. Attends PACURH Regional Conference, No Frills Regional Conference, NACURH National Conference.
– Develops, maintains and facilitates participation in activities directed toward residential communities that value and support diversity, multiculturalism and inclusiveness.


– Provides behavioral intervention to students including counseling, mediation, problem solving, policy incidents and referrals of individuals or groups of students regarding personal concerns, academic needs, or policies
– Serves as a mid-level conduct hearing officer with residence life that serves as inter-mediate contact and responder for students and university officials
– Responds to and supports medical, safety and security emergencies and to students in personal crisis as needed. Serves as departmental representative in these situations and exercises independent judgment with response and communication to supervisor
– Reviews incident reports, follows-up with students involved in documented incidents, determines various levels of behavioral sanctions and enters incident report data into computer records
– Interprets, and counsels students on university policy violations and determines educational sanctions and or responsibilities for policy and behavioral infractions that best meet student needs, and contractual obligations to the University


– Develops and coordinates the student staff recruitment and selection process in conjunction with the Residence Hall Coordinator staff;
– Collaborates with the CWU Publicity Center for marketing campaigns related to the student staff recruitment and selection process’
– Actively engages in recruitment and hiring new employees.
– Develops and coordinates the student staff training program in conjunction with the Residence Hall Coordinator staff;
– Promotes professional development opportunities;
– Develops and fosters supportive working relationships, motivation and engagement;
– Communicates information to staff on an ongoing basis to influence staff engagement and to be a part of a larger community;
– Adjusts leadership style as needed to achieve results.

– Serves as instructor for the RA-Class Psychology 275 in conjunction with Assistant Director of Residence Life or designee. Develops and enhances the course curriculum to achieve the desired learning outcomes of the course
– In conjunction with the Assistant Director of Residence Life, develops and coordinates the mission, vision, values, and goals of University Housing and New Student Programs Living-Learning Communities (LLC).
– Works with LLC Faculty/Staff to develop, enhance, assess, and evaluate their LLC to ensure each LLC is meeting their desired mission, vision, and goals.
– Assess and evaluate the LLCs on a regular basis to determine feasibility for sustaining each LLC
– Assist with inquiries about the development and proposal of new LLCs in conjunction with the Assistant Director of Residence Life and Director of Housing Operations and Marketing


Represents the University Housing and New Student Programs and serves on campus-wide committees as assigned
Assist the First-Year Experience Program as needed

Salary: This is an FLSA exempt (not overtime eligible) position. We offer a competitive salary, commensurate with experience.

Schedule/Appointment: Monday – Friday, 8:00am-5:00pm (1 hour lunch)

Working Conditions: This position requires on-call responsibilities. Daily work is conducted in an office setting with site visits to assigned area residence halls, student rooms, common areas, and community rooms. On-call responsibilities may be conducted on-campus with the possibility of response to situations outdoors. Some weekend hours may be assigned as needed.
