Student Conduct Officer at University of Victoria

Reporting to the Associate Director, Residence Life and Education, the Student Conduct Officer is responsible for the development and implementation of the residence conduct model and community standards system and its supporting programs, in alignment with the strategic goals and values of Residence Services management. The Officer supervises or leads response processes regarding the resolution of Residence Community Standard infractions within Residence Services, and/or refers incidents to other university departments when appropriate.

Specifically, the incumbent is responsible for:
◾assessing, evaluating and leading the response to residence conduct reports;
◾supervising or leading complex and comprehensive follow up processes and/or investigations;
◾making decisions or recommendations on appropriate sanctions as part of the follow up process;
◾supervising and training the Residence Life Coordinator team in the delivery and follow up process for all levels of conduct response;
◾providing after-hours support to On-Call Residence Life Coordinator in crisis response process and protocol; and
◾liaising with key campus stakeholders to coordinate response across Student Services departments (e.g., Office of Student Life, Campus Security, Counselling, Equity and Human Rights, Health Services, etc.)

The Officer is responsible for providing leadership in the development and implementation of the residence conduct system, including staff training, prevention programming, process, and residence contract review. This includes responsibilities for the development and delivery of comprehensive training to over 90 paraprofessional staff and 5 Residence Life Coordinators in areas such as: report writing, procedural fairness/natural justice, managing difficult conversations, conflict resolution, investigation skills, confidentiality and boundary setting.

The Officer will be part of an inter-departmental team that assesses risk to individuals, the residence community, and the University, and responds in accordance with university policies and guidelines.

The Officer will work closely with the Office of Student Life to align the residence conduct model within the scope of the larger university policies, including Non-Academic Misconduct, Response to At-Risk Behaviour, and Sexualized Violence.

The Officer plays an ongoing role in the provision of critical support services to students in distress, providing consultation to the Associate Director, Residence Life and Education, the Manager, Resident Support and senior management both within Residence Services and within Student Services.
