Position Details

The Facilities Department at the University of Lethbridge is seeking a talented and self-motivated individual with practical experience in facility maintenance for the position of Facilities & Operations Coordinator, Housing Services. Housing Facilities represent approximately 35,000 gross square meters of building space across thirteen buildings and houses. This position will work closely with both Facilities and Housing Services management to ensure we are providing a clean and safe residential environment for the over 1000 on-campus residence students.

Reporting to the Manager, Building Maintenance, the Facility & Operations Coordinator will oversee the maintenance of all interior and exterior housing building components (including: architectural building components, grounds, electrical, mechanical, caretaking, painting, fixtures and furniture procurement of all capital equipment and operational supplies) and works with internal resources and external contractors to ensure that housing infrastructure is maintained to University standards. The Coordinator is responsible for the development and implementation of a comprehensive maintenance program including furnishings condition audit and replacement plan. This includes full managerial responsibility of 3 full time maintenance, 6 full time housekeeping staff and up to 40 part time staff for short durations in the summer months. In addition, the Coordinator manages the administration of a rolling three-year capital plan.

Position Qualifications

The successful incumbent must have a post-secondary degree in a relevant technical or management field. A minimum of 2 years related experience is required in building maintenance including: knowledge and experience in complying with building codes and legislation, experience developing and implementing maintenance schedules, and the creation, implementation and monitoring of safe work practices. The successful incumbent will have proven leadership skills with the ability to foster a healthy and positive environment for tenants and staff. In addition, the successful incumbent will have strong communication, organization, planning and analytical skills. Proficient use of the Microsoft Office Suite and the ability to exercise independent judgment and to think and plan strategically is essential.
