Associate Director of Residence Life – If you are looking to be a part of dynamic team by providing leadership to professional, para-professional staff and students this is the job for you. Residence Life is seeking an individual that can work independently, who is extremely organized, great at public speaking, motivation, and management. This individual must be willing to work a variety of hours, think outside the box, and have great teamwork skills.

The Associate Director recruits, selects and develops all residence hall staff, oversees the daily operations of all residence halls and oversees the functions, activities and presentations of the student development programs for the residence halls. This position serves in an on call crisis intervention/duty rotation with 2 Area Coordinators.   Handling confidential information is a regular responsibility of the job.  Independent judgement and sensitivity to the changing values and expectations of students, families and conference services customers is paramount.   The Associate Director also advises and coordinates student organizations associated with the Department, assists in establishing and implementing policies, goals, and objectives of the Department and is responsible for all decision-making in the absence of the Director.

This is a Grade 81; minimum starting pay $30.56.

Required Experience:

  • Three to five years of progressive responsibility in a University Residence Life/ Housing program.

Typical Education or Training:

Master’s degree in related field and three years progressively relevant experience and two years management experience or an equivalent combination of training and experience in college student personnel, higher education administration, university housing and residence life, counseling or related field.

Other Duties as Assigned
-serve on departmental, divisional, and university committees as assigned -maintain appropriate records, administrative files and reports
-Maintain liaisons with campus units and resources
-Participate in departmental/divisional meetings as appropriate
-Participate in departmental/divisional training and development activities as appropriate.
-Collaborate with Facilities manager to provide support for check in and check outs in EFG housing.
-Collaborate with facilities manager to maintain and implement crew/EWORF/key management systems
-Collaborate with Central Office Staff to maintain and update online RCRS, customer service, Hess Rec resources.
-Propose and adapt policy, handbook in conjunction with Board of Regents Policy.
-Effective written and oral communication skills relating to students, parents, administrators and staff collaboration with other departments in student services.

-Oversee and help senior hall staff implement leadership development programs and activities for residence life student government groups.
-Supervise RD Advisor of student leadership group (RHA).
-Create, support, and implement large scale programming for residents across campus (EFG housing included)
-Work with Marketing Manager to create advertisement for Halls and EFG on website, use snap chat, Facebook, Instagram, oversee hall FB accounts and create marketing plans for Winter Break, Large scale departmental programs, Freak Week, Starvation Gulch, EDGE workshops, EDGE opening and other Departmental events.
-Consult with senior hall staff about student activities to ensure compliance with university policy and procedures. -Coordinate the incorporation of academic support programs into the residence halls.
-Oversee & coordinate support, leadership and direction for the EDGE program.
-Oversees and assist in the creation, implementation and evaluation of all assessments activities/student-learning outcomes in University Housing.

Student Behavior
-Be trained and knowledgeable on Title IX
-Adjudicate student discipline issues in conjunction with the Director of Judicial Services
-Provide system and strategies under the guidance of the Director on conduct.
-Audit the Maxient online system
-Provide crisis intervention for entire student population of issues such as suicide, sexual assault, alcohol/drug abuse and other emergency issues.
-Provide case management on all conduct cases within housing.
-Maintain appropriate records and administrative files.
-Participate in departmental/divisional meetings as appropriate
-Participate in departmental/divisional training and development activities as appropriate
-Serve on BIT team if Director is unavailable
-Serve as a liaison with Dean of Students Office
-Serve as a Conduct Officer reviewing Title IX cases.

Residence Life Program

-Serve as the Director of Residence Life when Director is not available
-Recruitment, selection, placement, evaluate and personnel administration for hall staff
-Ensure that safety and security procedures are established and maintained.
-Provide and participate in on-call consultation and/or response for emergency situations.
-Collaborate with other units as appropriate
-Assist Residence Life program with long range planning process.
-Help develop programs/facilities that will provide appropriate housing facilities for current and future residents.
-Oversees and assist in the creation, implementation and evaluation of all assessment activities/student-learning outcomes in University Housing.
-Maintenance of the google docs and google calendar.
-Maintenance of the Residence Life google drive with all current information and manuals for all staff (PM, RA, DA, A/RD, AC).
-Oversee and managed for department Maxient system
-Oversee and manage Maxient and conduct tracking
-Create tracking system for data completion.

Staff Supervision
-Plan, direct, supervise and evaluate the residence life hall staff according to the objectives established for the department.
-Assist with interpretation and implementation of Residence Hall and University policies
-Communicate weekly with senior hall staff via regular meetings, phone, email, and personal contact.
-Play an active role in the professional development of Assistant/Resident Directors.
-Ensures daily contact with Area coordinator for the purpose of exchanging information, discussion of ideas, problem solving, and review Maxient and conduct cases.
-Effectively builds a cohesive, creative, and effective staff who understands student engagement and retention practices
-Plan & Implement A/RDs and Area Coordinator Training
-Approve and review RA hiring and evaluations
-Continue to support customer service training working with Central Office and other offices to encourage the best support of the residents. We serve, train, and arrange summer RA and winter break RA training, scheduling and expectations.
-Provide yearly performance evaluations.
