Position Announcement

Portland State University invites applicants for the position of Area Coordinator of Residence Life. Position: PSU is seeking two Area Coordinators who will report to the Director of Residence Life to contribute to the development and management of a comprehensive Residence Life program. This staff will provide leadership and direction for up to 45 paraprofessional staff to ensure the oversight of the operation of 10 buildings that house approximately 2000 residents (including PSU students and their domestic partners and family members). The staff is expected to contribute to the fostering of an environment for learning and social interaction that supports the mission of the University and to promote and model teamwork and establishment of an inclusive, supportive, collaborative, service-oriented multicultural environment. The Residence Life Program will support the mission of the University through strategic planning efforts in collaboration with academic affairs and student services. Residence Life Program staff will respond to resident student issues, concerns, and emergencies; develop appropriate committees; work cooperatively with other University departments to create co-curricular and experiential learning experiences for students; contribute to stewardship of campus climate, and contribute to assessment and evaluation of programs within student affairs. This is a full-time, live-in, fixed-term, 12-month unclassified, unrepresented, overtime exempt appointment. Candidates for this position are subject to a criminal background check.

Minimum Qualifications
A Bachelors Degree with one or more years of residence life experience and in living learning community development. The ability to work effectively on a team. Strong problem-solving skills in the context of interpersonal and group relations, strong analytical skills, and strong oral communication skills. Scheduling flexibility to meet residents’ needs. Must pass a criminal background check.

Other Preferred Qualifications
A Masters Degree and two years experience working in a college or university environment. Experience working with traditional first-year college transition issues and academic success. Staff training or experience in leadership development, supervision, program planning and evaluation.

Compensation
The starting annual salary rate for these positions will be between $27,500 and $30,000 dependent upon qualifications and experience with an excellent benefits package including fully paid healthcare; a generous retirement and vacation package; and reduced tuition rates for employee, spouse or one dependant at any of the Oregon University System schools.
